A few lunaria and eucalyptus wreaths are in the farmstand this morning with a few last fresh flowers, lettuce mix, carrots, radicchio, broccoli, sweet and jalapeño peppers. More wreaths coming this weekend and we’ll have herbs and a few more things Wednesday before the holiday. If you grabbed 15+ quarts of Kareli Farm apples last week and forgot to pay, please do so! And we’re deep into researching the history of the people on this land. The last photo is a 1916 Woodman’s map. Our farm is the property then owned by John L. Hanson who, with his friends from the Alaska Valdez Gold Rush, Brenno, Field, Borud, Abrahamsen, Nilsson and Lande, bought the recently logged land and began building houses. Other names associated with the story of this place: C. S. Holmes (one of the founders of Port Blakely Mill Co.), Edward Jentoff Mathisen and his sister and neice Fredrikke and Elida Dyrness, A.L. Datin, Nettie Kearney, Robert J. Dowling, Charles J. Robinson and Verna B. Mapes.
